How to easily Find ZIP / Postal codes in Nigeria by State and City
When you fill forms Online or register on a website - all the basic information required to successfully complete the application form and submit are easy to get.
Examples are: Name, date of birth, email address, Country and phone number - But one of the most difficult one of them all to answer CORRECTLY is usually the "ZIP / POSTAL CODE"

NO - Nigeria's ZIP / POSTAL code is NOT 234 for all cities and states as most people think - Rather +234 is only the International Dialing Code for Nigerian phone numbers.. example +2348032701904

WHAT IS MY ZIP / POSTAL CODE?
Postal / Zip codes are required to make locating a post office near you easier, so that your letters and packages can be easily delivered. It is used to groups areas in a city and makes the postman's job a lot easier finding residential / office addresses.

To find out your zip / postal code is easy using one of the oldest and still striving institutions in Nigeria - "THE NIGERIAN POSTAL SERVICE" - (NPS)

Yes, The Nigerian Postal Services still works despite internet / email and the other Big names in the Business (DHL, UPS, FEDEX) taking over delivery of letters and packages faster. The NPS still offer P.O Box address amongst other services for individuals and corporations.

Here's how to find your postal / Zip code in Nigeria:
  • Visit the New Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) Website http://www.nigeriapostcodes.com and select Urban Postal code search for cities or Rural postal code search for villages.
  • Select required State, Town / Local Government Area and finally click GET POST CODE button and your correct postal / zip will be shown to you

10 Most Popular WordPress plugins (+7 I personally use and love)

With over 24% of the web powered by WordPress, it’s one of those things that is quite literally sweeping the Internet. And with WordPress’ next goal of turning that 24% into 50%, it’s clear that WordPress is all the rage.
With so many people out there looking to build a more functional sustainable site with WordPress, more and more folks are looking for easier ways to handle the essentials.
That’s where WordPress Plugins come in handy.
These handy little additions can do wonders for a blog, and some of them are so widely used that they have millions of downloads.
I’ve put together a list of 10 of the most popular plugins on the WP Plugins Directory to shine some much deserved light on plugins that are reaching for the top. Each of these bad boys currently has over 1 million active installs, and they’re ready to make a new home on your WordPress blog, too.
In this post, I have put together two lists
  1. 10 most downloaded free plugins (with over 1 million downloads).
  2. My favourite plugins that I personally use.

Top 10 (free) most downloaded plugins

1) Akismet

Ah, comment spam. Don’t you just love that stuff?
Those pesky little emails and junk mail that come flooding in at every turn are just so much fun…. Sarcasm aside, spam really is very irritating. And spam comments in WordPress are the most irritating of all.
If you want to save yourself a serious headache, then Akismet is the pain reliever of choice.
It helps stave off comment spam and even has the ability to delete all the junk comments on its own so you never have to even see those digital vermin.

2) Google XML Sitemaps

Believe it or not, even if you’ve done everything you can to optimize your posts for SEO, your site itself might be what is causing the biggest issues for it not ranking…
The likely solution?
A sitemap.
And the Google XML Sitemaps plugin is one of the most popular for giving your site just what it needs. By creating an XML sitemap, your site is much easier for Google to crawl and read, thus helping your site rank higher.
This plugins makes a sitemap for your blog

3) Contact Form 7

If you haven’t noticed, my Contact me page has a contact form. I didn’t code it nor did I design it. I just used the Contact form 7.
It’s a very simple and handy plugin for creating different types of contact forms. In contact form 7, you will be able to add different forms and give them names. You can also make some of the boxes as “required“, for example the email address or phone number box. No need for special CSS coding.
The plugin integrates into a post or page by the use of shortcodes, and you can pretty much customize the input forms and drop down menus as to say whatever you like.

4) Jetpack by WordPress.com

There is a lot to love about the JetPack plugin.
Instead of going in search of a whole bunch of other plugins, Jetpack has a sort one-and-done idea that it is built on.
There are over 30 modules that you can activate to help you run a tighter faster ship:
  • A picture CDN know as Photon
  • Site Stats
And quite a few more. You’ll need a WordPress.com account to use and connect the plugin to your site, but it’s well worth the extra step.
All-in-one plugin for WordPress users

5) WooCommerce

WooCommerce is the plugin that revolutionized ecommerce for WordPress.
It took the more difficult aspects of creating and running an online store with WP and made it about as easy as humanly possible.
Though it does take some learning, the ease of use and the many other plugins and companies that support the plugin add a lot to its popularity.
With this plugin you can turn your blog into e-shop.

6) Wordfence Security

A house might have deadbolt, but that won’t keep a thief from breaking in.
Similarly, your WordPress site may be locked behind a slew of passwords, but that’s not the best form of security.
Many people recognize the need to add security measures to their site and that’s why so many flock to Wordfence. The security plugin allows features like blocking malicious networks, scanning for vulnerabilities, monitoring various metrics that could make your site more open to attack, and much more.
It’s no wonder so many people use it.
Makes your blog more secure

7) Yoast SEO

You know it, I know it:
SEO is a big deal.
And even though a lot of what we know about what SEO is has changed, a lot of things have stayed important — like creating content that is optimized for Google search.
However, creating that content correctly can be of a hassle if you don’t know what you’ve done right and what you’ve done wrong.
That’s where the Yoast SEO plugin comes in.
Instead of being left to guess if you’ve optimized your content correctly, the plugin helps you every step along the way. And if you use this one, you can skip the extra XML sitemap plugins, because Yoast takes care of that too.
Makes your blog more search-engine friendly.

8) Regenerate Thumbnails

You know what stinks? Blurry images!
Imagine this:
You decide to give your site a facelift and so you switch themes to change the look of it. Then, come to find out, all your featured images and thumbnails look terrible.
Enter the Regenerate Thumbnails plugin!
When you run into this kind of thing just run the plugin and it will regenerate your media as needed.

9) WP Super Cache

Every tried and true online entrepreneur seems to know and understand the need for a fast and reliable website.
Caching a WordPress site is something that is good for providing both of these.
One reason why this plugin is more popular than others is because of it being easy to use and setup. Just install, activate, check a few boxes to configure the plugins and you’re pretty much good to go!
This plugins speeds up your blog

10) Google Analytics by Yoast

Have you ever had that moment where you need to look at more than one browser tab and then feel suddenly overwhelmed with what feels like screen overload?
Yeah… We’ve all been there.
When you’re running an online venture, there are a lot of things you need to check on to keep a tight running ship like Google Analytics and your WordPress site.
But thankfully, the Google Analytics plugin by Yoast saves the need to open that extra browser tab.
Just install and setup the plugin, and you’ll be able to view the analytics of your site right there in your WP dashboard.

7 Plugins that I personally use and love

1. “All 404 redirect to Homepage” – It’s a simple plugin that redirects all your 404 pages to your homepage. For example, if you have deleted an old post or someone has typed in a wrong URL of your blog then he or she will be automatically redirected to your WordPress homepage.
In my opinion it’s a plugin that every blogger definitely needs. In addition, it makes your blog more user-friendly. For dealing with 404 errors, read those “best practices” from Bing.
404 redirection makes your blog more user-friendly.

2. “Antispam by CleanTalk”– I know you already read about Akismet which is really popular. However, I prefer to use CleanTalk. Why? It just over-performs Akismet. It’s free for 14 days, but then it’ll cost you $5 per month.
Plugin that fights against comment spam

3. “Simple Social Share” – This plugins adds social buttons and different sharing options to your blog posts and pages. When a visitor wants to share your page on Facebook, Twitter or Pinterest, he or she can do it with just one click.
Most of my blogs use this plugin and it has helped to increase my blog’s visibility on social networks. If your content is good enough, you have big chances that it will go viral as well. Neil Patel explains you how social buttons increase your blog traffic.
This plugins makes your content more sharable

4. “Scroll Triggered Box” – Do you plan to start sending regular newsletters to your readers? Or maybe you simply want to collect emails for potential business opportunities in the future? If yes, then the most advanced and well-designed plugin for that is Scroll-Triggered-Box. It’s made by Estonian WordPress coders and it’s easy to use. In my opinion it’s not only useful, but beautiful as well.

5. “Easy Facebook Like Box” – This is something that you can easily add to the widget area (mostly sidebar) of your blog. If your blog has a Facebook community or page then it’s definitely a “must have” plugin. With this plugin, you can direct visitors to like your Facebook fan page.

6. “WP-Polls” – If you are planning to create polls for your visitors then the best tool for that is WP-Polls plugin. In short, it allows you to create different polls that you can add inside your blog post or to the sidebar. Get to know more about your readers opinions/thoughts.

7.  “Author Bio Box” – If your blog has many owners, contributors or writers, you should add the Social Author Bio plugin to your blog.  It creates a special box below every post that gives the readers more information about the author. People usually write there a short bio about the author and link to his G00gle+ account and homepage. It’s well-designed and it suits for almost every blog.
Worth installing if you have multiple bloggers on one blog

When it comes to WordPress plugins, which ones can you not live without? I know I have more than one and I’d love to hear what yours are!

How to Make Money with your Blog

Now that you have your blog set up and traffic is coming your way, you’re ready to start monetizing your blog.
You must have seen or heard about people who make a lot of money from blogs. Some people aren’t even afraid to show it off to their readers. Here are a couple of folks who do extremely well with blogging:
  1. Pat Flynn from SmartPassiveIncome.com makes around $80,000 per month (he started his blog 5-6 years ago, though).
  2. Lindsay from PinchOfYum.com makes around $20,000 per month (she started her blog in 2010).
  3. Regina from ByRegina.com makes around $7,000 per month.
Start with these seven most common ways you can make money blogging.

1) Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing is a type of performance-based marketing. As the blogger, you include links to a product or service offered through another business’s affiliate program. If one of your visitors clicks on that link and purchases the good or service, you’ll receive a cut of the cost.
That’s how I monetize my blog here at Start Blogging Online.
If you choose to join an affiliate program, it’s always a good idea to:
  1. Only promote products relevant to your niche.
  2. Only promote products you’ve personally used and recommend.
  3. Include a disclaimer on your site as to not mislead your readers (like I do here).
So how do you get involved in affiliate marketing? You can start by joining a popular program such as:
But you don’t have to stick with just the big-name programs. Businesses can also set up their own programs for a single product or a small group of products, and you can become one of their affiliates. For instance, a fellow blogger might offer an affiliate program for eBooks or eCourses in your niche, which would be a great opportunity for you since it’s highly relevant to your readers.
How much can you make through affiliate links? Melissa Culbertson of Blog Clarity points out just two examples of a mommy blogger and decorative concrete blogger who make $20,000 and $32,000 per year respectively, and that’s with minimal visitors.

2) Google AdSense

Some people create a self-hosted blog solely for ads and Google AdSense is one of the most popular ad networks around. Simply put, you make money by displaying ads on your site. There are two ways to start earning cash from Google AdSense:
  1. Based on impressions: This depends on page views. For instance, for every 1,000 page views you get, you earn a set dollar amount.
  2. Based on clicks: Regardless of page views, if a visitor clicks on the ad from your site, you’ll earn a certain cut of the ad revenue. This can range anywhere from $0.01 to a couple of dollars depending on the ad.
AdSense is compatible with free Blogger blogs and self-hosted WordPress blogs, but keep in mind that it won’t work with a free WordPress blog (although you can monetize with WordAds if you have a custom domain).
googleadsense
How much can you make with AdSense? Well, that all depends on your traffic and how many people are willing to click on your ads. (Remember that you should never click on your own ads since Google can penalize you for it.) Pat Flynn of Smart Passive Income has reported earning upwards of $3,000 per month on AdSense revenue alone, but other bloggers like Spencer Haws of Niche Pursuits have reported earnings well over $10,000 per month.

3) Course and/or Services

If you’re already teaching your visitors through your blog, why not create an exclusive learning opportunity by building a paid online course? A common way to sell these courses is by setting up an 8-week course through automated email messages or releasing the full package all at once so students can work at their own pace. Just some examples of online courses include:
  • Audience Business Masterclass (from Firepole Marketing)
  • Article Writing Masterclass (by Carol Tice and Linda Formichelli)
  • Social Media Training for Serious Marketers (from Market Motive)
How much can you make selling eCourse memberships? Again, this all depends on how much you sell it for and how many people are willing to purchase the course. Gina Horkey of Horkey Handbook made over $1,000 in her first month after launching a freelance writing eCourse.
Like courses, you can also offer services. For example, many bloggers are also freelance writers, and they get paid to write blog content for other people. Other common services include speaking engagements and private coaching. Depending on your niche, you can get more specific. A wedding blogger, for instance, might offer wedding planning services.

4) Consulting

Consulting is another popular way to make money through your blog’s traffic. With these services, you charge a fee to give feedback to readers. For example, let’s say you blog about social media. You could charge $75 for a one-hour Skype session where you discuss your client’s social media strategy. Along with the Skype call, you might send a full written report via email on how to improve that strategy.
Let’s look at a few examples. Jim Connolly of Jim’s Marketing Blog sells two-hour-long “Pick My Brain” sessions for $319 a pop to discuss marketing tactics. Sophie Lizard of Be a Freelance Blogger sells one-on-one mentoring sessions for freelance bloggers in packages ranging from $197 to $497.

5) Paid Reviews and/or Banner-ads

If you’re generating a decent amount of traffic, you might be approached by a business looking to sponsor your site. There are usually two requests you get in these cases:
  1. Paid reviews or sponsorship posts
  2. Banner ads
Paid reviews are when the business sends you their product and pays you to write a review about it, but you are not obligated to write a positive review. Alternatively, some businesses will sponsor a specific post in exchange for a link back to their site. It is an ethical practice to disclose the sponsorship to your readers.
Banner ads are just what they sound like. They’re ads you place in “banner” style, usually in your sidebar. The business sponsoring the ad will often pay you monthly to keep the ad up on your site.

6) eBooks

Writing eBooks is a super popular way to start selling a unique product in your industry, and it’s ideal for pretty much any niche. With so many self-publishing opportunities available, too, it’s easy to get your book published and ready to sell with major retailers like Amazon or directly on your site.
How much money can you make? Darren Rowse of ProBlogger reports earning $72,000 in just one week after launching his eBook. If you’re not terribly well-known, you can still make a decent chunk of cash. Steve Gillman reports at The Penny Hoarder that he made about $2,000 from an eBook on ultralight backpacking that he wrote in just a few days.

7) List building

Let’s wrap up by talking briefly about list building. While this is not a direct means of monetizing your blog, it will help you reap the benefits of the abovementioned techniques.
List building refers to adding new subscribers to your email list. You can entice readers to subscribe by offering a free gift exclusive to subscribers and, of course, by consistently producing great content that people want to come back to.
But how does this help you monetize? It keeps people in-the-know. When you launch your eCourse, start offering consulting services, or publish an eBook, your subscribers are going to be the first ones to care. So, if you want to see quick results after a launch, be sure you have an email list built up to gain access to a pool of interested individuals.
That’s not to mention that you can also monetize your email campaigns with banner ads and affiliate links, too. In some cases, you might even set up a separate paid subscription email list for exclusive tips and offers.
If you want to start gathering your visitors emails too, check this guide

Buhari to Boko Haram: To negotiate, show us proof Chibok girls are alive!

on   /   in Interview, News 1:06 am   /   Comments
In  an interview, President Muhammadu Buhari fielded questions from  Aljazeera’s Mehdi Hasan on Boko Haram, alleged abuses by the Nigerian military and his leadership of  Nigeria.
Excerpts:
Is it fair to say that your country is in a state of crises?
Yes. Certainly, we have been going through crises, which we rightly articulated during our campaigns and we identified  insecurity, problem of the economy, unemployment and corruption. But since we were sworn-in, I believe positive actions have been taken and the results are very clear.  We have been able to re-organise the military; they have retrained and are in the process of re-equipping and they are certainly gaining ground against Boko Haram.
Is your target of stamping out Boko Haram by December  achievable?
You are entitled to your  opinion. When I gave the service chiefs the target, I know what  was physically on ground. And maybe you will like to recall that we have gotten the Lake Chad Commission on the ground, comprising of Cameroon, Chad, Niger, Nigeria and Benin. Nigeria is the main battleground and we have agreed  to dedicate a number of troops in certain places so that, by the coming of dry season, there will be a spontaneous move  against Boko Haram in their areas of operation in the sub-region.
Boko Haram bombing
On the ground, physically, things are getting better. I have just mentioned that after the re-organisation, we put new service chiefs, retrained the troops  at the war front, re-equipped them and sent them  back. If you observe clearly, the area of operations is limited to two states, mainly Borno and Yobe. Boko Haram has been reduced to using IEDs(Improvised Explosives Devices) only.
There have been a  thousand plus people dead since you were elected. The situation seems not  better than it was before you assumed office.
File: A screengrab taken on May 12, 2014, from a video of Nigerian Islamist extremist group Boko Haram obtained by AFP shows girls, wearing the full-length hijab and praying in an undisclosed rural location. Boko Haram released a new video on claiming to show the missing Nigerian schoolgirls, alleging they had converted to Islam and would not be released until all militant prisoners were freed. A total of 276 girls were abducted on April 14 from the northeastern town of Chibok, in Borno state, which has a sizeable Christian community. Some 223 are still missing.

Yes, we are being honest about it. Whenever there is an attack and there are casualties, we mention it, we don’t hide anything. But in terms of occupying ground, we are gaining ground and Boko Haram is now virtually confined to Sambisa forest. They are highly disorganised. As soon as the rainy season comes, which is the end of the year, Boko Haram will virtually be out of their strongholds and that will be the end of it.
What we cannot guarantee is the question of using IEDs by Boko Haram may continue beyond the target that we gave, but attacks by Boko Haram on townships, military installations, will certainly stop.
Repercussion of not meeting the December deadline
Something certainly is that I will not resign; I will be determined to stay and fight it out
Chibok girls
We have ideas about where the girls are. Our main problem is and what we promised to the constituency is that we want to rescue them alive. There is the Boko Haram leadership that wants  us to discuss but we have to prove they are bonafide. They have to prove to us that the girls are alive, they are well, and then we can promise we  can negotiate. We will negotiate if we certify that the girls are alive…
What would you offer Boko Haram in your negotiation?
Well, it depends on the negotiation with the leadership of Boko Haram.
What are you doing as a President and a former general to stop human rights abuses, war crimes and other alleged inhuman approaches of the Nigerian military?
We promise to investigate and punish all those who are responsible…
Are you going to prosecute the nine individuals  Amnesty International accused of war crimes?
I haven’t received the (Amnesty) report personally, but the organization of the military is part of the compliance with the observations raised by Amnesty International; if I get the report, I will read it. Although you sound confident that I have received it, none of my certified spokespersons have given me the report…
But allegations of war crime against the Nigeria military are not new and your spokesman acknowledged he has read the report?
I want us to go beyond talking; all you are telling me’s  that the United States security talked  about it; Amnesty has written, but I am telling you that I haven’t got the authentic documents you are referring to. When I get the documents, I will read  them and I assure you that those you are guilty would be identified and punished according to Nigeria law.
Boko Haram claims it supports Sharia law, and you have been quoted as  saying, ‘God willing, we will not stop the agitation for the total implementation of Sharia law in the country’. Is that still your view?
Boko Haram
Boko Haram
Nigerians, by their Constitution, have the right to pursue any religion they want to, but there is a fundamental issue here, no religion preaches violence. You cannot kill people in churches , mosques, motor parks and shout Allau Akbar. It  is either they (Boko Haram) don’t believe God is great or they don’t know what they are talking about. Nigerians  understand that Boko Haram is anything but Islamic…
We all know Boko Haram members are not godly as they claim, but do you support cutting of arms, stoning and other strict punishments as part of the Nigerian law?
No! Nigeria law does not permit that…
And you do not want to change the law to allow stoning or any of these brutal punishments to be brought in?
I cannot change it. I have not been voted by majority of Nigerians to change the Nigerian Constitution.
You ran for the election on the slogan of ‘’change” and you are a 72-year-old ex-military dictator. How are you sure about the change that Nigerians want and can you guarantee that you won’t become a dictator again?
I cannot be a dictator under this system. Like I told you, the system we are following now, the people I want to be in my cabinet, I have to send them to the Senate and it is up to the Senate to find them suitable or unsuitable to be in the Nigerian cabinet…
You were accused of human right abuses in you first coming as head of state. Do you regret those actions of yours now that you are a democrat?
If there is any injustice that can be proved  against me back then, I will gladly apologise, but trying to stop corruption and indiscipline is not injustice. In fact, my coming back now under a new system   is because of my performance the last time. You accused me of…but the people have seen discipline, accountability, order; they want it back and that is why majority of Nigerians voted me now under a different system.

How to Promote Your Blog and Get More Visitors/Traffic

Getting visitors to your new blog might sound a bit tricky at first. No wonder many bloggers get stuck at this step.
Luckily, I’ve grown some blogs into 500,000+ monthly visitors (see image below) and I’ve literally tried every method on the the internet. However, I want to let you know that it didn’t happen overnight and it took a lot of testing, failing and starting all over again.
blog_traffic_growth
On my homepage I promised this guide will be an all-in-one resource for beginners, so I felt it essential to include 10 ways to get more traffic to your blog. Without further ado, let’s get the ball rolling.

0) Content is KING – Put effort into your content

This should be your number one task from the beginning. Once you’ve created your blog, you’ll need to write compelling and interesting blog posts. If you are having writer’s block or just don’t know what to write about, then I suggest you check my post titled: 101 blog post ideas
Furthermore, make sure your blog posts consist of:
  • Information that other people (your blog readers) may not be aware of. It’s even better when it’s valuable and up-to-date.
  • Help or actual advice that helps your readers to succeed in something particular (for example: I’m writing this post in order to help you get more traffic to your blog).
  • If possible, add images & videos – people love to browse with their eyes.
  • Bullet points and well-organised paragraphs are all parts of a good blog post as well as outgoing links to different authority sites/other blogs that give out even more information on this specific topic.
  • In addition, you can share you own stories or news that might engage your readers from the very beginning.
  • The longer the better (usually). After blogging for more than four years, I’ve found that longer content gets more shares/likes and links. Keep in mind though, that your ultimate goal is not to stuff your blog posts with fluff and empty words, but rather improving the overall quality with useful, actionable and informative content.
Once you have at least 4-5 compelling blog posts or articles you can start thinking about promoting your blog. If your blog is unfinished and you don’t have much content to read then people will just think “OK, it seems like this blog is a work in progress and there’s not much to read. Perhaps I should come back later.” But here’s the sad truth: they don’t usually come back later.
For further reading: How to write killer posts that attract visitors
Conclusion: Believe it or not, content is king. You might drive thousands of people to your blog, but if there’s nothing to read, they will leave and most likely never return.

1) Social Media – Twitter, Facebook and Pinterest

Many bloggers suggest that people use all the mainstream social media channels, such as Twitter, Facebook and Pinterest. However, they don’t tell you how to get more traffic with them. In this guide, I’ll show you how to do that.
  • Step one: Sign up for Twitter, Facebook and Pinterest with your blog/brand name. For example, if your blog domain/name is “DealingWithMess.com” then you should set up a Twitter account named @DealingWithMess.
  • Step two: Integrate them with your WordPress blog. You can create pinnable images with this Pin It Button plugin. To display your twitter feed and/or follow button, use this plugin. For Facebook, the best option is to use Custom Facebook Feed.
  • Step three: Add social buttons below/above your blog posts and pages. For that, you can use any of those plugins: Social buttons plugins.
I know it seems like a lot of work, but this is a great way to get started. Just install the plugins and you’ll see how much more easily shareable your blog will be.

2) Start participating in forums/hangouts

Another great way to get more exposure to your blog is to start communicating with other like-minded people. Just look for forums that are somewhat similar to your blog topic and be active on them.
In short, add your blog link to your bio (on Quora) and in your signature (on forums) and you’re basically set.
Next, take 20-30 minutes each day to comment/give advice on boards and forums. How much traffic would you expect from this method? I’d say 100 visitors per day can be quite a realistic goal at first.

3) Optimize your blog for search engines

Most blog owners don’t optimize their blog for search engines and this is a HUGE mistake. Why? Well, you’re missing out on free traffic that Google can bring to you.
Did you know that every day 1 trillion search queries are being typed into Google? What if some of those search queries end up on your site? Awesome, huh?
To start optimizing your blog with search engines (Google, Yahoo, Bing) – you’ll need to install the Yoast plugin. Here’s a thorough guide for tweaking the Yoast plugin – How to Install and Set up Yoast plugin (2000+ words!)
One more thing – make sure your blog is indexed by Google. If you want to get it listed on Google super-fast, check this step-by-step tutorial.

4) Do some link building

Changing your blog settings and installing Yoast was your first step towards getting more blog visitors from search engines. However, there’s a whole science behind that. In short, to get more search engine traffic to your blog, you’ll need 3 things:
  • 1) Great content – I’d say write blog posts of at least 1000 words and also link out to relevant sources that give value/facts to your readers (you can use WikiPedia).
  • 2) Social shares – Facebook likes, shares, tweets and other social metrics. The more the better, obviously.
  • 3) Incoming links – If a blogger named Jason linked to your blog from his resource page, Google will see you in a better light. So get in touch with other webmasters/bloggers and see if some of your content could provide some value to them, thus they are potentially more open to give you a link from their site/blog.
I did a lot of research and found 3 awesome articles for those 3 factors. Check them out and give it a go!

5) The old and (still) good Guest Posting

Guest posting has been around for a while and it’s still an awesome way to get more traffic and visibility to your blog.
This strategy is a no-brainer to say the least, but I’ve given you some steps to get it going (smoothly and the right way):
  • A) Find a blog in your niche (Just type “keyword” +”blog” in Google)
  • B) Get in touch with their webmaster/owner (use their Contact page)
  • C) Ask them if they would be interested in an awesome guest post about X topic (keep your email short and sweet)
  • D) If they say Yes, go to step E). If they say No, move on and find another blog.
  • E) Start writing your guest post (and make sure it’s damn good!). Add some information about you in the Bio section and be ready for new visitors.
I used the exact same email conversations to get in touch with EventManagerBlog.com. Here’s my guest post that I wrote a year ago – How to use WordPress for your event. I still get some referral traffic from that post – awesome, isn’t it? :)
guestpost
I know that Matt Cutts (head of Google spam) told us we should reduce guest posts, but he also mentioned that meant guest posts that are solely made for links. What if I told you that the links you get from guest posts isn’t the most important thing?
Proof: A couple of months ago I saw Brian Dean guest post on the HitReach blog about 101 linkbuilding lessons. I loved it, and I started to follow him on Twitter and Facebook. Furthermore, I became an active reader of his blog and I actually bought his course that he was pitching to me.
What did Brian accomplish with that single guest post? In short, he got me on board – as well as many other folks who turned into loyal readers and even buyers.
Should you do that as well? YES!

6) Make a public announcement on your social media profiles

Most people are present on different social media platforms, such as; Facebook, Google+, Twitter and others. Check where you have the biggest number and most active followers and make a public announcement that you’ve started a blog that covers [TOPIC]. Write your industry/niche there and add a link to your blog. The first readers are usually your friends, family and acquaintances. They are easy to catch online.
Here’s an sample of my presence on Google+:
Tell people that you have started a blog
P.S: Right after I published this on my Google+ account, I started to receive feedback that was excellent! Your friends and colleagues might think that you’ve done a lot of work to set up your blog, but you know the truth – it’s easier than it seems at first glance.
Conclusion: The first few readers are probably your friends. Make sure you let them know about your blog so they can give you feedback and help you make improvements. At the end of the day, you’d want to make your blog the best.

7) Submit your site to famous social bookmarking/discussion sites

You have probably heard about StumbleUpon or Reddit. If not, they are sites where users (yep, you need to register) can share something that they have liked. If you share your blog post and other people “like” it, you will get more exposure. Sometimes great blog posts can go viral out there.
Make sure you publish something awesome in order to get it viral. Here are a couple of sites where you can share your blog posts:
For further reading, check this awesome post by Neil Patel. He explains how you can make your blog post go viral on Reddit.

8) Create videos to land new visitors

Did you know that YouTube is the second largest search engine – but most bloggers never use it the wise way? One simple option is to create a short video or a video series where you talk about one of your recent posts, like a review or a summary. Just make sure you write a comprehensive description under the video and definitely add a link in the first line that directs people to your blog.
Youtube_traffic
I’m sure you’ll land some visitors from time to who will actually become long-term readers. If you’re using a Mac, iMovie is the best software you can use for editing, but here’s a list of alternative options. YouTube is definitely a powerful channel that can be used for traffic acquisition.

9) Become active in Your niche/community

Influencers in the industry gather a lot of attention and traffic. There are many ways to find them but one of the easiest ways is using Topsy.
Go to topsy.com and pick “Influencers”. After that search for keywords that are related to your blog.
I picked “Blogging” and got a list of people who are active and considered to be authorities in the blogging niche. Now, do some research about them.
Topsy homepage
Check their blog, posts and tweets, and see where you can step in and add value with your comments and discussion. There are several other tools you can use, for example Klout, Twello, Tehnokrati and more.
The easiest way to start interacting is by posting value-adding blog comments to popular posts. Keep in mind that you’ll have to pick recent articles and also the ones where you feel you’re competent and able to say something.
Keep your eye on their social media activity, re-tweet their updates and answer their questions. Connections don’t come overnight; they take time but are totally worth it in the long run.
Conclusion: When you manage to build a relationship with the authorities in your niche, you will start gaining more exposure. And when you do, it’s only matter of time before you also become an authority.

Paid ways to get more traffic to your blog

While search engine traffic, guest-posting and participating in communities takes your time, it does not involve spending any money. Below I’ve included some ways to generate more visitors via paid channels.
I highly recommend you try out free methods first, but if you want to take a step into the paid traffic world, see the options here:

10) Buy ad space

One of the ways to attract more visitors to your blog is to use the BuySellAds.com site. It’s a place where you can see all (not all, but the vast majority) of the sites that offer banner advertising.
Keep searching until you find something relevant to your blog and give it a go. For example, if you are running a tech related blog, use “technology” keyword to find relevant blogs. You can also use “Refine Search” for a more specific search.

11) Try out Google Adwords

You must have seen some ads when you’ve typed a search query into Google. Something like this, perhaps:
adwords_google
Well, this is called Pay Per Click advertising and it’s brought to you by Google Adwords. The good side of this is that you can get unlimited traffic (sort of..), but you’ll need to pay for every click (somewhere between $0.50 to $2.50).
If you think you can generate a positive ROI (return on investment), then give it a go.

Three factions contesting Eze Ndigbo title in Oyo

By Ola Ajayi
For the past 17 years, it has been a kind of graveyard silence for the three warring factions contending the title of Eze Ndigbo of Oyo State when the Igbo Community Development Association ‘crowned’ Dr. Alex Anozie. The three factions were led by Dr. Alex Anozie, Chief James Nduka Oramadike and Chief Alloy Obi.

Each of them had been laying claim to the title and this has led to serious legal battles. Though, the battle for recognition subsided shortly before the 2015 general election as the  factions came together to drum up support for the former president at Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, all parties later withdrew into their nests, sharpened their swords and dusted their armour for fresh crisis.
Of the three, Dr. Anozie has been brandishing a court judgment by Justice Mashud Abbas of Oyo State High Court on February 18, 2014 which recognised him as the rightful holder of the title. The court declared that Anozie is the subsisting Eze Ndigbo of Ibadanland and Oyo State, having been democratically elected and sworn-in into office by the Igbo Community Development Association in 1997 on the authority of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo in 2000.
As he approached the state High Court, he sought a declaration that all steps  taken by Chief Alloy Obi and his group who were claiming the title of Onyendu Ndigbo were contrary to Igbo customs and tradition, and the constitution of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, and thereby null and void, and thereby sought an order of the court setting aside all acts and steps by the defendants towards selection and proposed installation of Chief Obi as the Onyendu Ndigbo of Ibadan and Oyo State.
In 2009, the crisis reached the crescendo as those who were sympathetic to Chief Obi allegedly came together and claimed to have removed Anozie. The claimant also sought an injunction restraining the defendants whether by themselves, their servants or agents, from installing Obi as Onyendu, and an order of injunction restraining Chief Obi from pronouncing or parading himself as the Onyendu Ndigbo of Ibadan and Oyo State.
However, after listening to the facts and circumstances of the case as presented by counsel to both concerned parties, the court identified some issues for determination.
The third issue identified for determination was whether Eze Anozie having been removed as the Ezendigbo of Ibadan and Oyo State in 2009 had the right to challenge the election and inauguration of Chief Obi as the Onyendu of Ibadan and Oyo State. All these issues were, however, resolved by the court in favour of Anozie, after which the judge went ahead to grant the relief sought by the claimant.
While granting the prayers of the claimant, the court ruled that there could only be one Onyendu Ndigbo for one community, and that the claimant is the one for Oyo, having been duly so proclaimed by the Igbo community in Oyo State in a communiqué issued on September 30, 2000.
The court also declared that all acts and steps taken towards the selection of Chief Obi were contrary to the Igbo customs and tradition and the constitution of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, and therefore granted an order setting aside all the steps and acts which led to Obi’s purported selection as the Onyendu.
Finally, the court granted an injunction restraining the defendants, whether by themselves, their agents or servants from installing Obi as Onyendu of Ibadan and Oyo State, and the one restraining Obi from parading himself as such.
While speaking with Vanguard yesterday in a telephone interview, Dr. Anozie said as far as he is concerned, since the court has ordered the other groups to desist from parading themselves, anybody promoting them to flout the court judgment is not a friend of the country.
“Anybody I am referring to could be radio, television, government and even me. I learnt that the other side has appealed the judgment of the State High Court, they should wait for the outcome of the appeal. It should also be noted that when you appeal a judgment of a lower court, it doesn’t mean the judgment no longer subsists. It subsists until the appellate court says otherwise. The truth is bitter but it is good to tell the truth. Both of us in the crisis presented our evidences before the court and the court having weighed the evidences and pronounced me as the holder of the title,” he said.
As Anozie is slugging it out with his opponents in the state, the national leadership is also giving him grey hair. Recently, his camp accused Ohaneze national leadership of instigating crisis in the state. It called the attention of the national body to the fact that the court “ordered everything about the Igbo General Assembly (IGA), including their acts, steps taken by the group and the South-East Traditional Rulers null and void, and restrained Chief Aloy Obi from parading himself as the Onyendu Ndigbo of Ibadan and Oyo state.”.
His group alleged that the recent visit by “one person who called himself the Deputy President of the Ohaneze Worldwide, by name Ogochukwu Onyema”, who allegedly said something that eroded the court ruling, and claimed to have spoken on behalf of the Ohaneze national body.
“If it is true that they are the ones who sent one Ogochukwu Onyema to Ibadan on 15th of August, 2015, to come and say all what he had said, then they need to take caution . We are responsible peace-loving citizens of Nigeria who so much believe in the rule of law, and that is why we tolerated so many provocations since many years now, and we have continued to allow the judiciary to help us sort things out peacefully. Oyo state is peaceful and we want it to remain peaceful”.
“We are aware of the antics of the very person who has been the brain behind all these problems since all these years; he would want to drag everybody that matters into this controversy, including the South-East Traditional Rulers and Ohaneze national body, whom we expected to play a justified fatherly role in this issue.”, they said.
Vanguard learnt that the judgment of the High Court has been appealed and pending the determination of the suit, the last has not been heard about the crisis.
